                                 "THE WIZARD'S" TECH TIPS

Tip #7:  Four Stroke riders including pit bikers, we strongly suggest constantly adding fuel conditioner and stabilizer to the $3.30/gallon gasoline that America's oil industries are giving us.  This gas goes bad so fast it is almost a given it will clog your pilot jet.  The smaller the hole, the easier it is to clog.  We use Spectro FC Premium which is a great product to help ward of this problem.

Tip #6:  The three major contributors to engine failure is dirt, detonation and water.  We can control detonation with race fuel and we can keep water out by replacing O-rings on exhaust and making sure none enters when pressure washing.  Dirt is up to you!  We have told you this before in previous tech tips.  Dirt is the most common cause of engine failure.  Since dirt can only enter through the air filter or the air boot, it is up to you to maintain these areas.  The picture below illustrates catastrophic failure due to dirt.

Tip #5:  '06-07 YZ 125 Shifting Problems?  If you are having trouble finding neutral, you will need to replace the shifter stopper lever (part #1C3-18140-10).  As you can see in the picture below, the new part on the right still has the bearing needed to control the shifting drum.

The repair requires the removal of the clutch basket.

Tip #4:  Don't be misled - Dyno Talk coming soon!!!

Tip #3:  Four Strokers!  Magneto maintenance; take the time to remove your magneto case and remove your flywheel and clean all the debris that has built up on the magnets.  This stuff is stuck there because it is metallic (not good for engine longevity).

Tip #2:  Air Filters -

The key ingredient to having a motor run great and to increase it's longevity is a clean air filter.  Most people neglect this simple maintenance task.  Try riding your dirt bike with your mouth three quarters closed and see how well you perform.  You should always have readily available, pre-oiled, clean filters.

To clean your filters, you can use any solvent such as mineral spirits (or purchase the liquid dirt remover and cleaning tub that Twin Air offers).  Even though the companies who make the filters do not endorse the use of gas, it is readily available and cheap if you have a place to discard it.  Do your filters in batches in a five gallon bucket.  Wash them in solvent to remove most of the grease and filter oil.  Let them dry then mix dishwashing liquid and warm water.  Let them soak.  Then wash by hand and wring out and hang to dry.  After drying, put a piece of newspaper on the ground and beat the filter with your hand over the newspaper.  See how much dirt is still left!  Then pre-oil and put in plastic grocery bags to have readily available.

You jet your bike to run with a clean air filter. A dirty air filter will only lead to the bike running richer.  Even though cleaning air filters can be a nuisance, it is probably the most important preparation your bike can receive.

TIP #1:  YZ 125/250F clutch fibers -

When replacing clutch fibers for the above bikes there are two different types of fibers that go into a stock oem clutch.  The inner most and outer fiber is Yamaha part #3XJ-16321-00 and the other fibers are part #5DH-16321-00.  The reason for this is the inner diameter is bigger.  This prevents chafing on the 125 and allows room for the tension washer on the 250F.  If you buy an aftermarket set, some companies mark their bigger diameter fibers.

We strongly suggest pre-soaking all fibers for a couple of hours before installation.
